ATB is owned by Vitol and it is the 7th crude refinery plant in Malaysia. Located at Pontian, Johor Darul Ta'zim, the 32kbpd refinery, is well-positioned to supply both the local bunkering and growing energy markets across the region.

The refinery neighbours VTTI-owned ATB terminal which includes over 1m m3 storage as well as 6 onsite jetties and can accommodate any size or type of tanker. This unique positioning enables us to offer our customers a secure and fully integrated supply chain, from production and blending of quality marine fuels, to storage and delivery.

Designed to be highly energy-efficient, the refinery deploys state-of-the-art technology including a distillation unit with a prefractionation column.

Job Description

ATB Sdn. Bhd. is offering an exciting internship opportunity for Chemical Engineering students
to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic tank terminal and refinery operations environment.
This internship will provide exposure to real-world engineering processes, technical analysis,
and operational planning. Interns will work closely with experienced engineers and technical
staff, contributing to meaningful projects that support plant performance, efficiency, and
environmental compliance.

As an Intern – Process Engineering, your responsibilities may include:

Gaining an understanding of tank terminal operations, ullage planning, and optimization.
Learning about integrated complex operations including environmental systems (e.g.,
wastewater treatment, flue gas treatment).
Assisting in process monitoring and analysis (e.g., material and energy balances) using
tools such as SeeQ.
Supporting technical evaluations of refinery systems (e.g., water treating, flare, heat exchangers).
Participating in troubleshooting activities and root cause analyses for operational issues.
Assisting in monitoring corrosion and chemical optimization in collaboration with chemical vendors.
Supporting crude tank scheduling and production planning efforts.
Learning to use simulation tools like KBC Petro-SIM and linear programming for process and blend optimization.
Contributing to performance monitoring through analysis of key operating and safety indicators.
Documenting findings and preparing reports on process efficiency and improvement opportunities.
Participating in the development and revision of standard operating procedures, including startup, shutdown, and safety protocols.

Qualifications

Minimum bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering (CGPA 3.5 & above)
Excellent computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets. Added advantage in process monitoring tool, refinery simulation tool and miscellaneous technical and engineering software (pressure analysis, heat transfer, equipment sizing, etc.)
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Excellent written and oral technical presentation skills.
A can-do attitude, and willingness to learn.
Global outlook. Able to work across organizational and cultural boundaries.
Team player, with an open non-political style and a high level of personal integrity
Energetic, resilient, and resourceful, with an ability to work accurately under pressure.
