Overview of Role
- The Risk Officer is part of the Risk team based in Singapore reporting to the Regional Head of Risk (APAC) and will work in close collaboration with traders, operations, trade support, accounting and back office. This role is a key control function ensuring quality reporting of trading performance and risk analysis for the region.
Main Responsibilities
- Validate and report daily trading P&L to traders and senior management with a high level of accuracy and timeliness.
- Reconcile daily trading exposure with traders, demonstrating a thorough understanding of the desk’s trading strategies.
- Collaborate closely with operations to assess the logistical impact on risk exposure and P&L, including reviewing the reasonableness of operational cost entries.
- Reconcile listed derivative positions daily by comparing clearing statements with internal Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system.
- Perform daily checks to verify deal entries against trade recaps and ensure accuracy and completeness in the ETRM system.
- Assess curve valuation by comparing against broker quotes and other reliable external sources.
- Verify that marked-to-market curves are correctly applied in physical deal valuations.
- Allocate hedges to relevant strategies where appropriate.
- Monitor daily Value-at-Risk (VaR) consumption against established limits, investigate breaches, and escalate to the Regional Head of Risk (APAC) with clear analysis of contributing factors.
- Investigate and resolve month-end differences between ETRM and Accounting systems.
- Onboard new products by configuring curves and trading calendars within the ETRM system, ensuring accurate risk exposure and P&L generation.
- Actively participate in and contribute to risk-related projects, including ETRM enhancements and process improvements.
- Provide cross-coverage support within the Risk team as needed.
- Identify and implement opportunities to streamline and automate existing processes for greater efficiency and controls.
- Deliver risk analytics and insights for management reporting.
- Perform other ad-hoc tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the manager.
Profile
The individual should have the following:
- Minimum Bachelor's degree with a major in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Accountancy, Mathematics, Statistics, Computing or equivalent. Polytechnic or diploma holder qualifications with relevant experience will be considered.
- Minimum two years of relevant work experience in commodity trading business as Risk Officer (or equivalent) for both derivatives and physicals
- Proficient in both spoken and written English and Chinese to support effective communication across diverse stakeholders
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential
- Strongly preferred: experience with Excel VBA, Python, or Power Query/Power BI
