Main Purpose:

The commercial and operational container shipping activity is carried out in the Metals & Minerals division under the Operations Department Management.
The Container Shipping Operator is responsible to fully optimize the shipping operations by following adequate processes to ensure a smooth and efficient execution of the activity.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:

  • Markets and related dynamics awareness about commodities, volumes, stakeholders, local supply chain, purchase/sale incoterms, local requirements and specificities.

  • Ports operations monitoring involving containers supply, ports congestion and local activities.

  • Shipments booking observing carriers’ nominations and following commercial shipping team instructions.

  • Space allocations management.

  • Shipments organization and follow-up from load port to discharge port including transshipment operations and eventual cargo diversions to ensure a full shipments optimization.

  • Shipping documentation follow-up including shipping instructions submission, packing lists verification, BL drafts approval, LC requirements observation, timely OBL issuance and dispatch.

  • Communication and coordination with all concerned stakeholders (warehouses, shipping lines, customs agents, etc) and in-house departments (trading, operations, finance, accounting, etc).

  • Costs disputes (containers damages, demurrage and/or detention) handling and escalation.

  • Freight invoices verification and payments approbation.

  • Carriers statement of accounts management, observing the pre-agreed credit terms.

  • Monthly statistics reporting.

Abilities, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Previous experience (minimum 3 years) in the shipping industry (preferably in shipping operations related departments at a shipping line or at a freight forwarding company).

  • Familiar with Incoterms & Shipping terms

  • Good knowledge of shipping documentation processes

  • Good maritime geography knowledge

  • Good level of MS Office applications (excel, PowerPoint)
